IELTS Format

The IELTS questions are set up within a 6 cycle mini-test format.  A total test time 2 hours and 45 minutes should be allowed to complete the IELTS test. You are allowed to answer each section without time constraints within the IELTS test. 

Question 1: What is the maximum amount of time allowed to take the IELTS test?

Answer: You are allowed a total time of two hours and 45 minutes to complete the IELTS test.

Question 2: How do I prepare for the time constraints on the IELTS test?

Answer: Allow each question/essay a reasonable amount of time and thought. Treat each question with the same level of difficulty.  Don’t start to panic and begin to rush through the questions. Review the time constraints identified under the IELTS breakdown chart.

Question 4: Is there any penalty for guessing on the IELTS test?
